Your body has undergone a lot of changes during pregnancy. After giving birth, you might feel different.1 However, if you experience an exacerbation of your existing symptoms, speak to your healthcare professional.
Like many mothers who have just given birth, you will likely need to stay in the hospital for a few days after the birth to ensure that both you and your baby are doing well.
Because there is a slightly higher risk of a myasthenic crisis after delivery, you should contact your doctor immediately if you have difficulty swallowing or breathing, or experience weakness in your head, arm, and leg muscles.2,3 This will help rule out the start of a myasthenic crisis.
If you decide to breastfeed, having gMG is generally harmless to your baby as gMG cannot be transmitted via breastmilk.4 However, if you are on medication, always discuss breastfeeding with your healthcare team beforehand to evaluate the benefits and risks.
Since some medications can pass into breastmilk, it’s important to consult your doctor about breastfeeding your baby.4
